Full fishtrip

Well, after Kelley and I stayed up till after midnight last night celebrating Halloween...which work pretty much sucked even thought I got a lot done... I got out for my longest ride this year.  I was hoping that route would be 10 miles and I was hoping it would take me an hour to do...but I'm happy with the results.  On my way back toward the house I saw Kelley out running... YAY!  You go honey.

Felt good

Well I took fish trap again to the end where the bridge should be...came back and hit the 3rd phase and found out that course is a hair longer than taking creepy road north.  It is a very brutal hilly extension to my original 5.  Legs felt strong but I worked them to the point of cramping up so I know I had to have burned some calories.  Had a little late start but it was worth picking katelyn up from tennis to take her to ROTC drill.  Even if she got a little stressed that I pulled into the wrong entrance at the High School.  Wonder if she will remember if she ever reads this... Sorry Kate  ;)

Well my weight is staying consistently at 225 at a high and 222 for a low.  Hopefully this week will be better.  Good choices...Good choices... Good choices

I have a sore butt.  Wasn't sure if I was gonna ride this morning since I was sick all day yesterday...pollen.  But it was such a nice morning I just had to.  Weather is a cool 60F and the roads were almost traffic free.  Ended up taking fish trap up to the highway since the road is now open.  Surprised it was 7 miles round trip.  I briefly thought about heading back on the north side of providence but wanted to see what the distance was first with this route.  Next time I may hit it, or if the lake is people free I may get that in for an extra mile.  Could be a full 10 miles if I do both...or close to it.  Well, may wash and wax subi.

Manic Monday

Apparently I didn't get the memo to stay home after work...apparently it's aim for cyclist day.  Didn't get upset just tried to stay out of everyones way.  Way too tired to get into a fist fight today.  Maybe tomorrow.

Well I was in ICT last week so no riding.  This past weekend we had a bunch of folks over to celebrate Randy's birthday.  Great steaks, drinks and company.  Then we went to the goodbye party for Flexjet.  Didn't care to stay long and honestly could have avoided the whole evening.

So it's Monday and work was slow.  Felt terrible all day, just so tired from this weekend.  Looking forward to not entertaining the whole community for several weeks to come.  Just gonna lay low and ride.  My weight was 225 this morning.  I'm sure I'm still dehydrated as it'll certainly be up next time I weight in.  That's ok, I've done pretty well.

Nice Friday Ride

Got to sleep in this morning as work starts at 4pm today.  Just a catch and I hope all goes well.  Felt good out there not shooting for speed, rather than time.  Checked out a new edition to Providence, can't believe we are still building after 14 years in the community.  Anyway, riding back there reminded me of riding years ago with Kelley and the kids when the lake wasn't even finished.  Brought back some really good memories.

Well, here's to a good recovery.  Kelley and I are planning on heading to the north greenbelt for 8 tomorrow.  Drop our bikes off in Frisco...do some clothes shopping...see some counting crows and rob thomas...Wedding Sunday in Sulphur Springs, congrats Anthony...then I leave Monday for a work week in ICT.

Stupid watch

I was THIS close to stopping for a beer at the bar.  I had a great day at work, didn't do anything, but felt good, but the drive home is enough to change everything from good to fucked up.  Anyway, I would have had there been any buddies there.  So I came home, quickly got dressed and hit the bike.  Had a slow but hard ride...and then I realized my Garmin never started.  Fortunately I had my apple watch going...I forget it last week.  I think I could have gone farther.  It was a good 28 minute, 5.6 miles or so which is still the longest since last year.

Katelyn isn't feeling good.  Had a fever so she stayed home from school, and good for her...she looked terrible.  She stayed out late in Sherman last night playing tennis.  She's pretty awesome like that.

Anyway, need to clean up.

Felt tired...better

Had to be awake before 4am this morning.  Between that and I believe are allergies it was tough getting out.  A little nap, an iWatch IOS 3 update and I was motivated when kelley came home for a late lunch.   Felt real strong out there today and crushed some speed records.  Ass is still a little sore, but I do believe it's getting better.  Katelyn is having her second district meet in sherman today and Jacob hasn't checked in with us today.  He called last night after arriving and seemed to be in great spirits.  It's only a matter of time before he gets knocked down but if I know my son he'll get up faster each time.  Kelley is still our rock.

Had way too much fun over the weekend...again.  Weight was up to 228 this morning, then 229 after work.  Brutal day visiting Gulfstream today and I have to be at work at 5am tomorrow for a launch.  Anyway, super tired but was able to get out for a little over 5.  Sweated out some of the bad stuff.

Jacob made it safely to Wichita Falls around lunch time today.  I haven't spoken or text him since he got there but he was really pumped to finally leave San Antonio.

Well here's to a good week of losing weight.  I pray I can drop at least a pound, would love to see 222 or 221.

I'm riding

Well today was the 3rd straight day of a 4 miler on the bike.  Today's temp was 95 and I was 72 seconds faster than yesterday and 5 minutes and 30 seconds faster than Monday's.  I really pushed it today, not sure what got me motivated.  Perhaps cause it was all the traffic I was a hoping to avoid...which I did.  Rush hour through our community is always a blast but today I never met a car at an intersection.

So the weight is down again today, almost back to where I was a few weeks ago.  My hopes are to be able to ride for an hour hard. Then...two hours.

Well the diet I described in May was spot on, however I need to do a better job at sticking with it.  Don't get me wrong, it was the vacations and weekends that hurt the most.  Mainly because we seemed to run out of good food toward the weekend.  Also, we cooked so much on Sunday and Monday that the left overs got kind of boring.  The salmon asparagus combo seems to work the best for me.

I did get down to 222 just before vacation and slumping on the healthy diet.  That's down about 15 pounds or so when I started.

Well, we just got back from San Antonio watching my son graduate basic training with the Air Force and I'm up to 231.  I assume it's just being bloated from all the extra salt.  So, a 4 mile bike ride with Kelley this morning and 4 glasses of water so far...and I'm drinking a protein shake.  Here's to part 2 of a good diet.

The Secret to Weight Loss

I'm roughly 60 pounds heavier and about 6 years older than when I started running half marathons.  But I have just learned the rules to losing all this weight and it doesn't involve any exercise.  I need to get this on paper in case I trail off the diet years from now.  No exact order but here we go:

there is roughly 4 grams of sugar in a teaspoon.  Ketchup has one teaspoon of sugar for every tablespoon.  There is approximately 11 teaspoons to a small bottle of orange juice.  Your pancreas creates insulin to send sugar to cells for energy.  It'll grab up the sugar first instead of sugars broken down from protein and fat.  This may or may not be scientifically true, but it's what i remember reading.

eat protein before drinking wine, beer or spirits.  It helps slow down the breakdown of the carbs which in turn keeps your insulin down.

don't eat carbs in the morning after waking up.  Insulin sky rockets.

There is no such thing as essential carbs.  You really need zero to survive.

Eat a protein or good fat every 3 hours.  Don't let your body get hungry and it will want to start storing fat.

If your going to eat carbs, make sure they are low on the glycemic index.

So, stick with no processed foods, no sugar, very low GI carbs and lots of proteins and good fats.  I try to eat 1 avocado a day.  My goto protein is fish, chicken and hard boiled eggs although I don't buy the best chicken...yet.  My goto alcohol is still wine but I'm starting to think vodka and water with lemon may be better.

I believe I started eating a pre-diabetes kind of diet, I haven't been diagnosed but am probably headed there if I don't reverse it, about 9 days ago.  I have dropped about 6 pounds and feel less bloated.  I assume mostly water weight but I don't have the carb cravings any longer and I feel full after a meal.

Still cycling

Can't believe it's been this long since I created a blog.  Guess I just hadn't had much to blog about since hip surgery.  Anyway, today's bike ride was my first in a while and kept it short.  It's gonna take some time to get used to the bike seat again.  Not really looking forward to it, but it's spring time and time to get back in shape.

Nothing interesting about today's ride.  Almost got hit by a lady in a minivan and swallowed a bee.  The sting on the lip pretty much sums up the pain from the seat as well.  It can only get better...i hope.
