December 31st!

A final run to cap off a tough year of running. The summer heat really knocked down the mileage. So for 2011 I've put in 687 miles and I loved every step. Here's to 2012!

Providence 5 by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

It was tough getting out to run this afternoon. Sunny but cool, and when the sun went down it got real cold. I got 5 in only because I know this weekend will be full of food and drinks.

a little homemade 5k after work this afternoon. Temps were 42 with a wind chill of 35. The cold air felt great but I could have done without the wind.

White Rock Half Marathon

A very cold run yesterday running my 4th consecutive White Rock Half Marathon. It rained the entire time with temps around 44F. I woke up around 4am and left the house at 4:45 for my hour drive to Fair Park. As I left the tollway and got onto I-35, about 45 minutes of driving, I quickly realized I left my racing bib and chip timer on the counter. Called my dear wife and asked her to bring it. She quickly jumped in the car and started her 1 hour trek to Fair Park. I called Lindsey who was meeting me at the race and found out she was running behind and was still in Allen. Long story short, Kelley was able to give it to Lindsey saving her time and tolls. The race went well other than the rain. I really got tired around mile 9 where I ended up walking for a minute or so. The last few miles were tough. My joints were aching and my hands and feet were numb. Didn't have much of a kick but what I did throw in caused my calf to cramp up a little. So I took the line kind of easy. Enjoyed a couple beers with Lindsey and Andy and drove home to my wonderful family.

Speed Work

Ended up rolling my ankle about a half mile into the run. I was able to shake it off before I started my 1 minute repeats. Today was the fastest I've been able to hit the speed course in a very long time. Good stuff.

Day 1

Just a few miles today and a nice strong pace. Today I'm starting over with my training. Going back to an actual schedule rather than running whatever I feel like it. Happy Halloween

Its cold again...

Temps were around 38 this morning for this morning's run. Trying to shake out the memory of the ballgame last night. Cold weather brought on a few aches that I didn't have a few weeks ago when it was a 100 outside. Knees, hip and ankles were really tight.

Starting over...slowly

Just a nice easy run after work this afternoon. Weather was nice, got out a little later due to having a power nap after I got home. A lot more traffic in the neighborhood then I care to handle.

A tough 5

Ankles still a bit sore but ran through it. It's supposedly the last hot day this year, topping out at 90. A good 5 even though I felt sluggish. I did convince myself to cut my 5 miler short but ended up changing my mind and finish what I started. Here's to cooler weather.

The Tyler Rose

I've been thinking since I've finished the Half Marathon in Tyler which was worse...this one or Nashville Rock N Roll. Still not sure, the hills were absolutely brutal today. Not to mention coming off a long Summer of poor milage and a bunch of injuries. In the end, I'm glad I did it. I finished the Mellew 4 Seasons Challenge today. Glad that one is behind me. Great job to all those who got out and ran today.

Hopeful

Went to the doctors on Thursday and got a cortisone shot for my ankles. They're both a little tender but I"m hopeful they'll pull through for tomorrow's Half Marathon in Tyler. Kelley and I just finished getting packed, we're listening to the Rangers game, game 1 vs Detroit for the ALCS. Ok...so she's doing the packing and I"m listening to the game. It's 8pm now and we have to be up at 3:15. It's suppose to take us 2.5 hours to get there.

Ankle Pains

battling through what I believe is tendonitis. Hurts like hell to walk on, however it felt good out on a little job. Not sure what's going on. I only ran today to see how I would feel this Sunday during the Half. Seems like I will be ok.

8 MIles - Cool Temps

Not a bad 8 miles this morning. Ran the north section of the 380 greenbelt and only came across one snake and 4 deer. Good to see a few runners out there on that side of the belt. Ended up pushing the last mile, felt too good to hold back. Next week is the Tyler Rose Half Marathon. Time to take it easy. Temps were in the low to mid 60's.
1 8:24.2
2 8:25.5
3 8:35.9
4 8:43.1
5 8:58.6
6 8:45.6
7 8:37.3
8 7:26.5

A cup of coffee before I left work and a taped up foot and ankle made for a good fast run. Felt real sluggish the first half mile but after warming up I felt somewhat strong. Not great times but it was nice to finally pick up the pace. Getting ready for Saturday's 5k in ADS.

Monday, September 12, 2011

Just a nice easy jog in this 102 degree temps after a long day of work. I was shooting for mid 9 minute miles but surprisingly it was a bit faster. My left foot is still a little sore from yesterday's 5k. Just taking it easy because my favorite 5k of all times is coming up this Saturday, Addison's Oktoberfest. Can't wait.
Meant to write this yesterday, as a few of us from work ran the 30th WARR (World Airlines Road Race). This year it was held in Grapevine, TX. Each year it's held in a different location around the world. Last year was London and next year is somewhere in China. Ended up running a 23:32 5k which was a little faster than I was hoping for so it was a definitely a good day. Kelley and the kids supported me as they always do by cheering us all on. From Flexjet we had myself, Ed, Duane and Lindsey.

Just a couple

Had too much fun last night which resulted in a harder than normal workout. Felt pretty good though. Tomorrow is the WARR 5k in Grapevine

12 miles and our first cool weather day

Considering I got only 6 hours asleep and slammed two cups of coffee I was able to put in some consistent, yet slow, 12 miles this morning. Finally some cool temps but at a price of up to 20 mph winds from the north. Figured out along the way that I really need some new shoes. My left arch, right knee and right hip were taking a beating. Here's to everyone who was able to put in a long run on labor day.

Speedwork

It's 103 outside this afternoon and I ran my first day of speed work. 6 X 1 minute sprints with a 1.5 minute cool down. Not too bad but the cool down's turned into walks toward the end. I have two weeks until my 5k and I hope to have enough speed and core work for at least a 23 minute race.

A heavy 8

A slow 8 miles this morning on the north section of the greenbelt. Not bad considering I was outside all day in the heat yesterday. My legs felt heavy this morning but didn't really give up till the last quarter of a mile. Looks like this coming week may be the end to these high temps. We'll see.

8 miles

Not a bad run this morning at the greenbelt. Met up with a guy on the trail training for his first Marathon. We ended up running the last couple miles together and running it much faster than I thought my last couple miles were gonna be like. None the less I kept up and enjoyed putting in today's 8 miles. After our run Kelley and I sat on the patio drinking bloody mary's and watching our son mow. Life is good.

The Hottest Half

Ran the Hottest Half this morning. Woke up at around ten till 5 and was out the door by 0550. Couple hard boiled eggs with some added salt. Pretty tired lining up for the start. Had a pretty rough weekend, thank you Kim and gang. Anyway, the plan was to walk a minute after each mile. That worked great until mile 6 when I decided to reward myself with a two minute walk. After that it was grueling just to keep a good pace. Miles ten through thirteen proved to be the toughest. My lungs were really feeling odd. Hard to explain but as I took deep breaths they felt light. Anyway in did start to cramp up and as I was trying to cross the finish line both calfskin really cramped up. Ended up walking, or limping the last ten yards or so. Woohoo, it's over.

8 miles

Kelley and I got out for an eight mile greenbelt run. I walked a minute in between each mile and pulled it off in this mid 80's heat.

Creek and Back

Still too hot to run any more than a couple miles. It's 93 degrees outside this morning. Guess I'm getting close to getting some gym time. Don't mind the weights but I hate the treadmill. We'll see.

3 Miles in this hot Texas heat

It's only 80 degrees and I feel like I've ran 12 miles. I'm still on track for 2008's mileage as I try to work off this weight and get some miles in. Those days I'd put in about 10 miles a week and toward Sept I really started cranking out the mileage. I hope to be doing that a lot earlier as I have a half marathon in two weeks from today. That's going to hurt!

Back in Texas for 2.76

Jus the usual creek and back. First run back in Texas and wow is it tough. I have a half marathon in two weeks and I'm nowhere near ready for it. I plan on going out for a long run tomorrow. Perhaps I'll do a walk run for 12 miles on the greenbelt. If I can get through that then I should be ok for the Hottest Half.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Ran 7 yesterday. I posted a big blog but somehow it didn't get published to the site. This is my last run in Wisconsin until next visit. 16 miles for the week.

5k up the north trail

I had planned on 4 miles but I was cut short by a swarm of deer flies a mile and a half up the trail. It was a warm humid morning and apparently my sweet smell was bothersome. Not sure if anyone knows what a deer fly is but it's like a horse fly but smaller and a lot more aggressive. And they're always with several others. I didn't catch my first mile time but second was 8:19 and the third was an 8:17. As I finished it started to downpour.

Running in Amery- 6 miles

Back in Amery, Wisconsin for vacation. Kelley and I got out for an easy 6 miles. What was supposed to be an out and back 5 miles turned into a tour of the city which added an extra mile. Small town huh. Temps were a cool 69 during the start and the only issue was the deer fly attack.

Creek and Back 3.01 mi 00:29 09:36 pace

With Kelley starting her marathon training she asked me to go out for a morning run with her. It was nice to feel some cooler temps but kept it easy. This is my 5th day in a row. My right knee is a bit sore, so I'm looking forward to two cross country days.

Creek and Back 2.69 mi 00:23 08:32 pace

An easy couple miles in the 99F afternoon. It was supposed to be a Gym day but had a last minute change. Then again I only intended on getting two miles in but that too changed at the last minute. Either way, good stuff.

Too long

So as this site continues to stay lingering on the web I feel compelled to get back to posting, as I start to get serious about my running. Since my lat blog in oct I can't say I've been doing anything but short runs, along with eating and drinking merrily. My weight has escalated back to 200 and my running has suffered due to my poor choices. However, thanks to a great brother in law I'm fired up again. So, here we go. For the record I ran 2 on sat and 8 on Sunday. Today, Monday starts a new life.
