7 x 400 meter runs

7 x 400 meter dashes by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

I could kick Hal in the nuts for making me run 7 x 400 meters at 5K pace. Especially at 4:30am. Especially in the most humid mornings I've ever seen, it's currently 79F with 88% Humidity. Now that my little rant is over and I'm starting to cool down, I finished today's run. I did a mile warmup followed by the 400m's with a 200 meter recovery jog in between. My knee is a little sore and I can tell I'm gonna need new shoes soon.

3 Miles + Strength

3 Miles + Strength by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Today was a gym day and I can honestly say I forced myself there. Today I started out with weights then hit the treadmill. Just not enough time during lunch for all the above. Tomorrow will be an easy speed work day. Can't wait for bed.

Slow 8 miler

Slow 8 miler by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Today's plan had me do a 90 minute run. I wasn't strong enough this morning for a full 90 so I turned around at the 4 mile marker on the Greenbelt. Probably a wise decision based on how I felt the last two miles. Even taking the two GU's I just didn't have enough energy. All in all this concluded the first week of training. I won't see another break until Friday. The temps are warmer today, it was 78F when I started my 70 minute run.

3 Miles

3 Miles by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Nice 72 degree morning at home. Today's plan had me run a nice 3 miles. Probably meant to keep the legs warm for tomorrow's 90 minute run but instead it felt too good to run fast. Wouldn't say it's fast but I did average 7:50 per mile which is a lot more than I've done in the past several months. Even better, I hardly broke a sweat. Well, here's to cool weather and here's to being able to run.

5 Miles

5 Miles by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

As I'm wrapping up the first week of training I'm starting to see an optimistic boost from this morning's run. Five miles at an 8:20 avg pace. Not great, but not bad. This morning's run was a 4:45am. It was a decent 71F with a slight breeze out of the north. Only problem is it's bringing in allergies. Tomorrow is a day off, thank goodness.

Day 3

Untitled by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Today's run was a simple 3 miles. The weather was cool, 71F, with a slight wind out of the north. Such a nice change from a southern wind. However, I think it brought in allergy season cause my head is stuffed up. Also, during yesterdays run I must have done something to my right knee. I can run on it but it twinges just a bit. I stretch before and after a run but maybe I'll stretch it out during the day today. How do I feel, out of shape. I am probably exactly where I was two years ago.

6 X Hills

6 X Hills by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Got up at 4:45 this morning to do sprints on the hills of Providence. Ok, we only have one hill but sprinting up it feels like like a lot more. There is exactly 40 feet difference in elevation from the bottom to the top, with the hill spanning a 100 yards. So, once I finished the top I jogged back down and started all over. A mile warmup and 3/4 mile cooldown. Not a bad second day of training.

Day 1 - 3 miles easy

Day 1 - 3 miles easy by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Today is the first day of Hal Higdon Half Marathon Training. So it was an easy 3 miles with strength training, and what a better place than to LA Fitness during lunch time. My strength training was weak, mostly abs, but I'm thinking maybe it's best to strength train before my run. I was sweating pretty bad after the run, even though it was slow, and my shirt kept sticking to me. Very difficult to concentrate on the strength training. Tomorrow is 6xHills. I'm thinking about getting up early and doing the big hill at the end of my community. It's a good size hill that's about a mile away so great jog for warmup. We'll see.

4 Miles

Easy 4 by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

So it's been almost a week since my last run. Seems a long longer than that. Tomorrow starts my Half Marathon training schedule so I had to get out and see where I am. Where I am...is extremely slow. I can't complain too much, I have been laid up in bed the last 3 or 4 days with a stomach bug. That was not a whole lot of fun. Anywhere, here's to getting my running back on track. Now I hope for some cooler weather.

5 Miles Around Providence

5 Miles by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

Well it's another warm Texas day, already at 86F at 8am. Today I was able to get in 5 miles. I did run out of fuel the last mile, heart rate climbing as high as 189 bpm while only running an 8:45 avg pace. Kelley fed me some whole wheat pasta last night and I do feel it helped with the first 4 miles. My heart was still high, however I did have some energy to burn. I was down to 185 lbs after my run while burning 734 calories. I'm curious, if it wasn't for the heat or the low carb diet, how much faster would I be running.

3 miles...still no energy by cavern1996 at Garmin Connect - Details

3 miles...still no energy

Ok, so it's been a while since my last post. I have been running but it's been tough. Temps have been consistently between 104 and 111 for the past several weeks. I'm not sure how much more I can take. I've been going to the gym during lunch for a quick 4 which has been good but even on the weekends I'm only getting in a handful of miles. I mean it's 8 in the morning and it's already 90F. Not to mention, Kelley and I are on this low carb kick to drop some of this weight I put on over the winter, spring and now summer. I've lost 5lbs or so but because I have no carbs in me...I have no energy either. So add that in with the heat and you have a brutal run.
