Today was the Ft. Worth Cowtown Marathon. I'd considered myself a little on the undertrained side, but after going into San Antonio overtrained it was important that I figure where I stand. It was perfect running conditions, no wind and no clouds. I did hit the wall around mile 18 and I honestly hurt the rest of the way. Kelley ran a 2:04 in the half and was sitting there waiting on me at the finish. The course had a lot of slow hills that seemed to go on forever. Only a couple steep spots and by that time I was around mile 18. I ended up walking and running after that point. Well I'm done for the day. Going to logoff and enjoy this beer.

Today's run was at the gym after a 15 min ride and 5 lap pool swim. I felt really strong for the run considering it was on a treadmill. I wasn't wearing my heart rate monitor but as soon as I stopped I checked it on the machine and had 162. That's about 86% of my max heart rate. Well less than a week until Cowtown. Most likely take it really easy this week. May get a swim or bike ride in through Wednesday then a few miles on Friday.

I was hoping today would be an effortless run outside since being indoors on the treadmill these past two days. Maybe it would have been had this not been the 3rd straight day of 5 milers. I did push probably harder then I should have but I was really trying to get back to the house. My heart rate averaged 168 with the max at 185. A little too high for just running what used to be an easy 7:54 pace. I'll be taking the next two days off then trying for 8 or 10 on Saturday.

Today's workout started with a swim at the gym. Ended up doing 5 laps trying to figure out where I left off over a year ago when I last swam. It was pretty tough doing these laps as I just couldn't get my breathing down. After the 10 minute swim which left me breathless I changed into my running gear and hit 5 miles on the treadmill. As far as the transition from swim to run, well I don't think it hurt me but then again I didn't swim but for 10 minutes. Tomorrow I plan on running outside after work as long as the weather holds up...we'll see.

Today's run was at LA Fitness, it was way too cold to run outside. For the small amount of readers I have, and to narrow that down a little further...for the ones or one that read this who don't know, I'm switching to Triathlons after Grandma's Marathon in June. Which is why I was at LA Fitness. Today I did 5 miles on the treadmill then hit 10 minutes on the bike. I feel pretty good today, found myself sweating more than usual..used to running in cold temps. I did make a trip to a bike shop today and picked up some running shorts. I sure that helped a little, however just 10 minutes on the bike has me a bit sore. I figured I'll do a progressive crosstrain. At least that's the plan but if the weather doesn't get any better it's not gonna be much of a progressive switch. Anyway, I have a Marathon in less than two weeks so I'm trying not to beat myself up. I am not near as prepared for this one as compared to San Antonio but I think that will actually help me. My body was beat up from all the overtraining. This time I"m undertrained so we'll see which works best. Hopefully by the third one in June it'll be just right.

Today marks my 200th post on Pure Running. That's 200 times I've gotten out to run since Jan 2009. And, according to Garmin I have logged just over 2000 miles since I started running in 2007. Today's 20 miler was my last long run until Cowtown Marathon in Ft. Worth. Over all I felt pretty solid, although the last 5 miles was really tough on my legs. Other than the last two miles, done in 9:01 and 9:25, they were all in the 8 minute range with the fastest being 8:25, at mile 13. I certainly feel better than any other time I've done 20. Well time to cooldown and get ready for the Superbowl. Go Saints!
