Wasn't sure if I had it in me today but I was able to pull out 5 hard miles. It was really nice to run that hard. Unfortunately there's always that price to pay. My knees, hamstrings, calfs and feet took a beating. Gotta lose this weight.

Just trying to stay consistent in my running this week. Going to try and run every day, health pending. I figure event if it's just 2-3 miles on the easy days it must be better than nothing. Weight is creeping up again, 197, due to all the eating out for work dinners these past couple of weeks. Not giving up, but really having a hard time keeping up.

Have you ever gone running feeling hungry while on meds that make you tired. That was me today. Good news is my knees and ankles felt fine. Bad news I didn't want to run once I got out there. Just didn't have motivation or the energy to do so. Hopefully this sort of thing won't happen again. Temps were a bit warmer today but very pleasant to run in. Gotta go...it's dinner time.

I didn't have a chance to blog yesterday due to the site being down. I did the Grapevine Vineyard 5K in 22:01. Not a bad run considering I was a bit out of shape. So today, with a cool temp of 48F, I was able to get out for 10 miles around Providence. My knees were a bit sore around mile 8 and my right hip started to ache around 7. However by mile 9 all pains went away and I was just plain thirsty. I didn't bring water cause I only expected to run 5-7 miles. So great run after yesterdays great run. Sunny and cool

Currently 64F at 9:45 this morning. Fall temps have finally arrived in Dallas and it was nice to get out for a long run. It's been several months since I've ran this far and quite obvious my knees aren't used to it. Between lack of training and putting on 25 lbs it's no wonder. Temps are supposed to stay down all week and I have a 5k run in Grapevine this next Saturday.

It's 92F with 60% humidity this afternoon. Today's run goes out to an old high school buddy who underwent surgery this morning and will have to go back next Tuesday for another round. Todd I'm praying for you and your family and especially pray for the doctors to figure out what is going on with your health. Get well.

I did take my fuel belt and even though I was running somewhat slow, I felt like I was running slower. So an 8:45 pace isn't so terrible. It's hot, but the cool breeze from the south felt refreshing.

Back into Training

So I took yesterday off due to the race this past Saturday. Felt good today, legs wise, but still real humid outside. Nice 74F with 90% humidity in the air. I'm sure it doesn't help that half of Providence is watering their lawn this morning. So the training plan had me run 3 miles. As of right now I'm off my current plan and looking for another one. There is just way too much speed work. It is the advance half marathon training, so I think Hal assumes you have all the endurance training behind you and he compliments a lot of speed and little distance. So instead of running 8 x 200 meter hills, I'm gonna do something else.

Today was something else, it all started at Starbucks.....

So it was 0630, Kelley and I ordered a tall mocha frapp and as I turned around I reached into my pocket to find only a wallet...no keys. Hey hon, "do you have my keys".... call Richard.....

Ten minutes go by, richard shows up in the Lexus. He says, get in...I'm walking home. Where are we going????, we're driving back to Denton to get my car keys. Thirty minutes later we get home and upon our arrival we see the biggest garage sale in the world...as we fish around trying to get home we get there with no keys into our home. To shorten the story, we got our wonderful neighbors out of bed, using one of our other neighbors phones...got the key....got in, got out and left. We drove all the way back to Starbucks, then to my mom's then headed to Addison....

Thanks to great friends at the race. We had a lot of beer and lot of laughs.

Little over 5

Another 80 degree - 85% humidity morning, and because of that I decided not to do a long run. So I did a 5 mile tempo run instead. I read an article this morning in an article that stated a coach tries to have his kids stride their legs and move there arms around 16 times per 10 seconds. Although I didn't exactly time 10 seconds on my run, only estimated it, I found I was somewhere around 8-10. So I tried shortening my stride, which felt like I was running on a treadmill, and I found hitting the pavement more comfortably. I've always tried to have my foot hit somewhere in the middle, just forward of the arch but I always had to be conscience of it. With this shorter stride it seemed automatic. I wouldn't say that was the reason for my 7:58 avg mile pace, but I can't say it's not either. Let the weather cool down and let the miles start coming in.

It's 80 degrees outside with 85% humidity with a bright sun beating down on the asphalt. The third mile hurt...

Today's a vacation day so I thought of getting it started with a nice run. Well, there wasn't anything nice about it. It seems my body just does not like to run in the humid hot temps. Just last week I was avg'ing 8 min miles on a 7 mile course. Today I couldn't keep my heart rate below 160 at an 8:30 pace. Hopefully we're at the end of this misery.

Went out for a 5 and got 3 and then some. Half way through the bathroom was calling my name. Not great since I missed the last two days of training due to a tropical storm running over Dallas. However, I am off tomorrow (Friday) and plan on getting in plenty of miles while the wife and kids are at school/work.

Supposed to be three miles, just didn't have it in me today. Temps are a bit warmer today than the last two, 72F, with humidity at 81%. I kept a pretty good pace up until the end. What energy I did have was drained going up the hill at Creek Village. And from there is was like running in mud. Good news is, I get a new pair of shoes today. These Mizuno's have killed my arch. Lessons learned...

This was actually yesterday's run. The training plan was majorly modified this week due to rain in the area. So instead of doing the scheduled 3 I got in the 5 mile tempo run. With the cool temps it made it a nice run.

I could kick Hal in the nuts for making me run 7 x 400 meters at 5K pace. Especially at 4:30am. Especially in the most humid mornings I've ever seen, it's currently 79F with 88% Humidity. Now that my little rant is over and I'm starting to cool down, I finished today's run. I did a mile warmup followed by the 400m's with a 200 meter recovery jog in between. My knee is a little sore and I can tell I'm gonna need new shoes soon.
